The Authenticity of Everyday Street Style.

Finding meaning in what people actually wear.

1. Beyond the Curated Photos:

When a person does not plan to be seen, their dress almost seems more natural, like they’re just going about their day instead of trying to make a statement. As I looked around the city, I saw that the most interesting outfits that didn’t look like they were even tried. They were almost like they were effortless.

Street style did not always look like it does nowadays. Street style began with photographs of people in their natural habitat and wearing their natural outfits. However, street style has developed into something new, particularly with the rise of social media and fashion weeks. It almost seems made up rather than authentic. What we see now is fashion intended for the camera, not the street.

But this got me thinking: what does true style look like when no one is looking?

2. What Do People Actually Wear?

The way people dress can be simple on the surface, but it is really more complicated than that. Clothes are an important aspect of self-expression and can convey personality, attitude, and social affiliation without saying anything. Even if someone claims they did not think about it, it reveals something about them. In some ways, they seem to be communicating without realizing it.

3. Styles in Real Life:

As part of this project, I started to capture these moments on my camera. They were not set-up photos but they were about catching people in a coffee shop or on a street corner. It was about capturing moments of presence rather than perfection.

Sometimes, I asked people why they decided to wear a specific piece or whether they owned something they usually wore. Their responses were usually basic. It was comfortable, cozy, or practical. Nobody ever claimed that it was a planned decision.

The simplicity of it all is maybe what makes it important. It says something about fashion being real not because you work hard at it but because you have done it so many times that it has become part of you.

4. The Beauty of Imperfection:

Street style has always been about personal expression and aesthetics. It was built based on experience rather than trends.

This divides street style from fashion photography. It is about being authentic to yourself in life but It could be the most true way to dress. It is not about making people happy but just about just simply being.

The most noticeable aspect of street style in everyday life is its imperfections. The outfits may not be completely balanced. The colours may not be completely matched. The combinations may not be correctly put together, however, the imperfections in street style are where the beauty lies.

This is especially relevant in the digital world, where photos are constantly updated. Imperfections in photographs get attention. They give photographs a more realistic appearance. "People are more engaged with content that is real and relevant. They have an easier time connecting with it".

This idea has immediate effects in the world of fashion. When something seems real, it has a stronger impact.
